Frequently Asked Questions
Why Watermelon Seeds?
Our watermelon seeds contain 35g of protein and 18g of fibre per 100g.
They are also low in carbohydrates and only contain 1.6g of sugar per 100g. So if you looking for an amazing plant based source of protein, look no further. They have more protein and fibre than any nut or seed on the market.
Watermelon seeds contain a large range of nutrients including calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, iron and potassium making them an underrated nutrition powerhouse! They contain protein to help build and maintain muscle, polyunsaturated fats to support heart and brain health, as well as antioxidants to help fight free radical damage.
Watermelon seeds also contain phytochemicals, which help to reduce the amount of ‘bad’ bacteria in our bodies, which keeps our immune system healthy and reduces inflammation.

Why Tigernuts?
Why do we use tiger nuts in our seed butters? Did you know they are NOT a NUT but rather a tuber that is rich in fibre and prebiotics, giving our seed butters that extra boost of nutrition and adding to a delicious earthy flavour. That is why our spreads are nut free and lunchbox friendly.

Why our Baking Mixes contain Wholegrain Spelt and Oats?
When we asked our dietician to come up with these mixes, we wanted to create a baking mix range to include the watermelon seeds (which are high in protein and fibre, and low in carbs) but also to be natural, delicious, lunchbox friendly and have nutrition at the forefront. We wanted them to be a goodness filled mix that is good for your gut.
Although a lot of people prefer to be gluten free, a lot of these products are not necessarily nutritious and in fact a lot of them are full of sugar and other fillers with the only benefit being gluten free.
At Lori’s Wholesome Pantry, we wanted to create a baking range that although they are not gluten free, they are lunchbox friendly, natural and have an excellent nutritional profile. With every bite, you know you are getting a nutritious and wholesome alternative. A lot of the gluten free alternative baking flours on the market are not packed with protein and fibre and are very high in carbohydrates.
That’s why we chose to use wholegrain spelt and oats. Both are very high in fibre and keep you fuller for longer. Spelt is an amazing ancient grain that is easier to digest than most other grains and is also a lovely alternative to bake with. So when you combine the spelt, watermelon seeds and oats, you are getting a treat that is packed full of protein and fibre and lunchbox friendly.
With every slice of our Banana Bread or Carrot Cake, you will be getting over 6g of protein which is the same as a boiled egg.
When having a slice of our Seed Bread, you are getting 8.9g of protein per slice.
